A big thank you to our presenters at the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Congresses. All three events were outstanding and a true reflection of Hargraves values – openness, generosity and sharing. Our hosts Queensland University of technology (QUT), Deloittes and CSR were gracious and accommodating to the over 50 attendees. It is always gratifying to see new people, new hosts for the first time.
The insights from each Congress were different.
In Brisbane, Prof. Michael Rosemann presented on GROWTH and RESILIENCE. This approach is a top down or ‘doing the right things approach’.
In Melbourne, Jason Bender presented on the ‘SandyEdge’ and new approach inside Deloitte to engage staff with hacking new solutions using technology. This approach is a bottom up or ‘doing things right’ approach.
In Sydney, both Uwe Kramer and Angus Kell from CSR presented on entrepreneurship and how to bring the spirit of the entrepreneur into a large established organisation. This approach is ‘teaching elephants to dance’. These presentations were ably supported by Dr Mirjana Prica from Food Innovation Australia Ltd (FIAL) presenting on how to change the culture of an industry.
In Sydney our presenters were Uwe Kramer, Angus Kell, Allan Ryan and Dr Mirjana Prica. Uwe and Angus shared the journey that CSR has undertaken to move from an innovation follower to a leader in innovation. Working closely with John Maclay and our partner Darrell Mann, CSR is now creating a pipeline of high value building products. The creative force of CSR Edmonds has shared many innovations from his much smaller division of CSR with Hargraves members in the past. Now this success is moving to the bigger divisions.
Mirjana was able to bring the success of many small entrepreneurial businesses from across the Australian food, beverage and produce sectors that FIAL is assisting to change the culture and performance of the whole industry. From sugar free cakes, to Sangria in a bottle to Zumbarones, our food sector can have a strong future if innovation is embraced.
Hargraves will work closely with FIAL over the coming months to bring the experiences and leaders of this initiative to our Conference in March 2015. For the first time our Hargraves conference is looking at having a trade display from a number of members and guests to showcase their recent innovation and innovators. This hands on display will bring a whole new dimension to the conference. Members will have the opportunity to display and share their successes with attendees.
Next year too, our Congresses will transform into more frequent and more intimate events to increase sharing and collaboration. Please watch for announcements on our website.
We thank CSR Building Products for hosting our Sydney Member Congress 2014.
