In conjunction with Hort Innovation Australia, the Hargraves team including Allan Ryan, Sandra Loader, Lynn Morris and Lisa Mallyon took 40 growers to Canberra for a series of events over two days for the Hort Innovation Alumni Network’s first national event.
The program started with everyone using our Collaborative Circle method for solving tough problems, which was a terrific way to break the ice and get to know each other’s concerns and expertise. At the dinner in the evening the conversation continued and we presented Hargraves Innovator Awards to outstanding growers.
On day 2, politicians were invited to join growers for a delicious breakfast in Parliament House among a display of produce, sparking lively conversations and useful connections.
“I felt chuffed when Lachlan Moncrieff, from Paragon Gardens ― a turf company ― displayed his Hargraves Innovator Award for a drought-proof business model at the breakfast, which he held proudly while having his photo taken with Cathy O’Toole MP” said Allan Ryan, Executive Director, Hargraves Institute
The final event was a leaders’ forum where new CEO of Hort Innovation, Matt Brand, talked about how R&D will drive the future for the sector, and future leaders need to capture the insights and use them to innovate their businesses.
