When most companies tackle this challenge, they usually address it in one of two ways.  The focus invariably is levelled on either the primary packaging or distribution methods of the product.  Our aim is to bring together the conflicting challenges facing today’s organisations and use them as stimulus for solutions that will improve environmental outcomes, lower total supply chain costs, and better satisfy the needs of customers and consumers.

Objectives

  • Explore the sustainability challenges facing attendees’ companies, and the solutions to those challenges so far
  • Compare these with the other (sometimes conflicting) wants and needs of our
  1. Customers
  2. Consumers
  3. Government
  4. Suppliers
  • Workshop some solutions to these conflicts, through smarter packaging design

Who should attend – Fast moving consumer goods, food, retail and pharmaceuticals companies, and

  • Anyone responsible for/interested in lowering their company’s environmental impact.
  • Anyone responsible for lowering their company’s overall supply chain cost.

About Innovatin 2010

The theme of Innovation 2010 A Contemporary Perspective is ˜Delivering The Future". Hargraves research with our members reveals the most successful organisations balance best practice (lean, six sigma and continuous improvement) with different practice (design thinking, creativity and disruptive innovation) to deliver real outcomes today while creating a successful organisation of the future. This balance is termed as excellence and exploration and represents an unconventional wisdom for success.

Day 1 of this conference is a plenary session restricted to 200 participants at the Melbourne Museum. Presentations will be made by leaders and practitioners who will focus on real outcomes and creating new value through innovation. Theory, practice and discuss will take place on Day 2 with Day 1 reserved for leadership and vision with valued insights by experienced leaders across the wide spectrum of members. By attending Day 1, participants will be exposed to the practice of innovation success and the pragmatism of delivering the future. There are extended break times on Day 1 to allow for networking and discussion. On the evening of Day 1 a special social event - cocktails and a Gala Dinner - has been organised to maximise networking and collaboration. The extended time enables participants unparalleled time for additional discussions, relationship building and sharing.

Day 2 of Innovation 2010 A Contemporary Perspective consists of workshops, discussion groups and short presentations in three streams. Three streams means smaller groups, more interaction and three times the number of topics for participants to attend.  A special member pack option allows three participants in a single member organisation to attend at a best value price enabling a member to have a representative at every presentation, workshop and discussion.  Teams experience more, learn more, synthesize more and add more value for their company.

The three streams are:
Innovation stream - "Future perfect - Designing your approach"
The Innovation stream is hands on and practical with emphasis on tools, techniques and applications.  The areas in this stream are specifically Design Thinking, Creativity and Futures (or scenario planning).  Members and experts will present case studies and our special interest group - NPD on New Product Development will share best practice in Stage-Gate and project management.

Sustainability stream - "Passion to priorities to performance"
The Sustainability stream raises the bar relative to the importance of effective application of innovation to global issues. The areas in this stream are specifically resources (water), procurement (supply chain) and overall performance.  Members and experts will present case studies and our special interest group - Sustainability of Supply Chain will share best practice in procurement and measurement.

Leadership stream - "Transformation, empowerment and best practice"
The Leadership stream focuses on the importance of people, teams and our leaders when discussing culture, change and collaboration. The areas in this stream are specifically sustaining culture (social media), empowerment (leadership) and best practice (training).  Members and experts will present case studies and our special relationship with leading business schools will bring the best new academic research.

The Innovation 2010 A Contemporary Perspective conference is officially two days, 10 and 11 March 2010.  Prior to and following the conference days a number of specialty events are being organised to maximise the value of people travelling. Melbourne members will open their doors to visitors and international presenters will facilitate special workshops for in-depth learning and discussion.

Over these two days make new contacts, see the big picture issues, uncover the many ingredients of success, access unparalleled content and especially discover something different that will bring improved performance to you, your team and your organisation.
